Competition to win medals in 100 m race event in athletics

The competition in every field of life is getting tougher. With modernization in science, art, education, research etc., human life is rapidly leaving behind each other’s success. This is happening especially in the field of sports. There are a total of 48 events in athletics, including men’s, women’s and mixed categories. Among these, the most popular, exciting and attractive among the 23 events for men is the 100 m race. Since 1896, when the modern Olympic Games started, except for 1900-1904, 100 m race has been included in all the other Olympic Games. In the 128 years of Summer Olympic Games from 1896 to 2024, the 100 m men’s category has been included in 100 m. The event was analysed and it was found that in 1896, Francis Lane of the United States of America achieved the best time of 12.2 seconds in one hit, while the winner of this race in Paris 2024, Noah Lyles of the United States, won by completing this distance in just 9.79 seconds. Thus, in 128 years, the time taken to cover the distance of 100 meters has been reduced from 12.2 seconds to 09.63 seconds. Because the Olympic and world record of 100 meter race is registered in the name of Jamaica’s great athlete Usain Bolt, who completed this distance in just 09.63 seconds in London Olympics 2012. That is, there has been a decrease of 02.57 seconds in 128 years. This clearly shows how man is doing hard penance to win the competition of sports. The time of the winners in this race from 1896 onwards has been as follows. In 1900, Arthur Dufeyne of America won in 11.4 seconds, in 1908, James Rector of America won in 10.8 seconds. This was declared a world record. In 1912, David Jacobs of Great Britain won in 10.06 seconds, in 1932, Edin Tolen of America won in 10.3 seconds with a world record, in 1960, Armin Harry of West Germany won in 10.2 seconds. In 1964, Ben Hans of America won with a world record of 10.0 seconds. Then from 1968 a new era began in the 100 meter race when Jim Hins of America won this race for the first time in the world in less than 10 seconds i.e. in 09.9 seconds with a world record.
The most noteworthy fact is that after this the Olympic or world championship winner always won the 100 meter race in less than 10 seconds. In 1988 Carl Lewis of America completed this race with a new world record by running in 09.92 seconds. Actually a shameful incident occurred in this struggle when in 100m. Wayne Johnson had completed this race in just 09.79 seconds in 1988 Seoul Olympics but after the race, Johnson was found guilty of taking banned drugs and was declared ineligible and his race time of 09.79 seconds was rejected and Carl Lewis’s time of 09.92 seconds was accepted. After this, the record of 100 meter race continued to be broken in Olympic Games. In this sequence, in 1996, Canadian runner Donovan Bailey set a world record by running in 09.84 seconds, in 2008, Jamaica’s great runner Usain Bolt ran in 09.69 seconds while Usain Bolt himself won the gold medal in 100 meters in 2012 London Olympics by taking a time of 09.63 seconds and not only won the gold medal in 100 meters of Olympic Games but also set a world record which is still intact. From the above statistics, we can clearly say that these days sports have brought revolutionary changes in human life.
There was a time from 1896 to 1968, when the 100 meter race was the fastest race. In the men’s category, none of the runners who reached the final round would have covered this distance in less than 10 seconds, but the desire to capture the gold medal has brought this situation to this in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Every runner participating in the last eight of the 100 m race had a record of less than 10 seconds. Their name, country and time of completing the 100 m race is recorded. Nishane Thomson, Jamaica 09.80. Aublick Sevine, Jamaica 09.81, Noah Lyons-USA 09.83, Fred Carelli USA 09.84. Akani Simbine South Africa 09.87, Leslie Tebogo, Botswana 09.91, Lamont Jacobs, Italy, 09.82, Kenneth Bednarek- USA 09.93 Thus all the above runners had run the 100 meter race in less than 10 seconds. Hence, this was an amazing record made in the 100 meter event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which had never happened in any Olympic Games till date. Today it is a matter of thinking about how athletes of other countries are playing sports with all their heart and soul and what is the state of sports in India is a matter worth thinking about.
