NIT Raipur celebrates 78th Independence Day, conducts plantation drive
2 min readRaipur (Team Newsbuddy): National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur celebrated 78th Independence Day on 15th August 2024. The event commenced with the esteemed Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur, hoisting the national flag, followed by the national anthem and a parade led by National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Addressing the assembly, Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the students, faculty members, and staff of the Institute for their continued dedication to academic excellence and national progress. He highlighted the Institute’s significant contributions through major events, including the successful organization of the 19th Chhattisgarh Young Scientist Congress and the launch of the new M.Tech. Program in Urban Planning. Dr. Rao also emphasized the importance of NIT Raipur’s role in addressing critical national challenges, such as the Mahanadi River Basin study, and encouraged students to actively participate in initiatives like the Research Scholar’s Conclave and engage with the Incubation Center to contribute to India’s innovation and growth.
The event continued with a series of vibrant cultural performances. India’s diverse cultural heritage was showcased through a series of poetry recitations, songs, and dances by Sanskriti – The Cultural Committee. The audience was captivated by a stirring musical performance delivered by Raaga – The Music Club, while Nrityam – The Dance Club highlighted India’s cultural versatility with traditional dances like Bihu, Kathak, and Garba. Additionally, the legacy of Independence Day was explored in a documentary presentation by the Public & Media Relations Cell (PMRC), adding depth to the celebrations.
The festivities concluded with a Tiranga Yatra across the campus and a meaningful plantation drive, titled “Ek Ped, Maa ke Naam,” emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship. Faculty members, staff and students of the institute were present during this program.
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Club, NIT Raipur organized a memorable visit to the Government School in Nardaha village, Raipur, under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Regional Coordinator, and Dr. Harendra Bikrol, PI Coordinator. The event began with the unfurling of the National Flag, symbolizing the enduring spirit of freedom and unity. Students from the UBA Club took an active part in various activities, including cultural performances, an awareness rally, and the thoughtful donation of cricket bats along with an array of games to the school. This initiative was crafted to inspire a deeper sense of responsibility towards rural development and education.
