NIT Raipur hosts multiple cleanliness drives, events under “Swachhata Hi Seva” 2024

Raipur (Team Newsbuddy): National Institute of Technology Raipur is organizing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign from 17 September to 2 October, under which various programs are being organized. Various Cleanliness Drive and Awareness programs were organized in these series of programs.

National institute of technology Raipur’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) club successfully organised a cleanliness drive at Shivrinarayan,at Janjgir-Champa under “Swachhata Hi Seva 2024” (SHS 2024) campaign. This program was organized as per the instructions of the Institute’s Director Dr. N V Ramana Rao under the guidance of Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Regional Coordinator, UBA, NIT Raipur. Other faculty members and students were present in this program. A team was also present for the successful organization of the program, which included Dr. H. Bikrol, Dr. Suvendu Roop, Dr. B Acharya, Dr. T P Sahu and Dr. Deepika Agarwal.

The drive started at the ghats of Mahanadi River near Shabri Dham, where student volunteers and staff diligently worked to clean the riverbanks. They collected plastic waste, debris, and other pollutants, revitalising the ghats. The oath of cleanliness was also taken by the locals as well as the members of UBA. This effort was not only aimed at cleaning but also at raising awareness among locals about the importance of maintaining clean water bodies and surroundings. As part of the event, the students also paid a visit to the temples in Shivrinarayan, where they engaged with the local community to highlight the cultural and spiritual value of cleanliness.

In the series of these events, NIT Raipur’s ‘Abhinay’- The Dramatics Club, presented a street play titled ‘Swachhmev Jayate’ in the Institute, as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2024 initiative. Organized under the guidance of Dr. Govardhan Bhatt, Dr. Deepak Singh, and Dr. Nisha Netam, the play highlighted the environmental harm and cattle deaths caused by the waste we generate. It emphasized that the real offenders are those who spread dirt, not the sanitation workers who clean it. The play was also performed at Anupam Garden to raise public awareness about cleanliness.

On the same motive, NIT Raipur’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) also conducted a successful cleanliness drive at DDU Nagar-Gayatri Hospital Road , as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024”. NCC cadets gathered at 7:00 AM and cleaned a designated black spot, promoting sanitation and environmental awareness. The drive fostered community spirit and emphasized the importance of keeping public spaces clean. The drive was organised under the guidance of Dr. Jitendra Kumar Rout, Faculty I/c, NCC and Mr. Kamal Singh Maan, Sports Officer, NIT Raipur.

Following the ongoing cleanliness events, NIT Raipur’s Aakriti- The Fine Arts Club, hosted a wastepaper competition. The program was organised under the guidance of Dr. S. Sanyal, (Chief Professor I/c) and Dr. Himanshu Poptani, (Prof. I/c).

The wastepaper competition challenged participants to creatively use materials like magazine and newspaper pages to produce innovative artworks, encouraging their imagination and artistic skills. A total of 36 students from various semesters participated in this competition. The winners were Reem Pari (first position), Aanadita and Pooja (second position), and Dharvesh and Hana (third position).
