Controversy over former PM Manmohan Singh’s memorial, Sidhu says: Do not do politics on this

2 min read

New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): After the death of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the controversy over his memorial is increasing. Congress demands that the memorial should be built at the place where the last rites are performed. The Home Ministry said that the last rites will be performed at Nigambodh Ghat and Manmohan Singh’s memorial will be built in Delhi.

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said that when a person dies, all enmity ends with him, but politics is happening here. I ask a small question that if Atal ji’s last rites were to be performed and someone said that it will not be at Raj Ghat, the memorial will not be built there, it will be built somewhere else, then how would it feel? This issue is not of any party but of the history of the country, this man was special, he was a living history. Knowing the right thing and not implementing it is cowardice. One should have a big heart.

Akhilesh Yadav says…

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has also given his reaction on this. Akhilesh Yadav said that the tradition of respect should be followed in the context of the former Prime Minister. BJP should not set an inappropriate example. AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, not giving a place near Rajghat for the last rites of the great economist and the only Prime Minister coming from the Sikh community shows the narrow thinking of the government.

Congress’s demands

Congress sources said that Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur wanted the last rites to be performed where a memorial could be built. Congress leader KC Venugopal said that the central government could not even find land to build a memorial for the former PM. This is an insult to the country’s first Sikh PM. When the issue of lack of space came to light, Priyanka Gandhi has suggested building Dr. Singh’s memorial near Shakti Sthal (Indira Gandhi’s memorial) or Veerbhoomi (Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial).
