EC responds to Supreme Court on reports of votes going to BJP in EVM mock test
1 min readNew Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): The Election Commission on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the report showing an extra vote to the BJP during the mock test of EVMs in Kerala is wrong.
The Election Commission has said that “this news report is wrong, we will submit a detailed report to the court.”
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner Association for Democratic Reforms, before a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta, referred to reports claiming that four EVMs were being mock tested in Kerala on April 17 in which these machines gave out extra slips with the BJP symbol.
When the bench reconvened after the lunch break at 2 pm, a senior Election Commission official, Nitesh Kumar Vyas, told the court that these “reports are false.”
He told the court, “We have verified the allegations from the district collector and it seems that this report is false. We will submit a detailed report to the court.”
On April 17, Onmanorama had reported that EVMs in Kerala had mistakenly registered votes in favour of the BJP in the mock test.
