Supreme Court issues guidelines to stop child marriage
1 min readNew Delhi (Team Newsbuddy) : A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday issued several guidelines regarding the prevention of child marriage.
What are these guidelines?
An officer should be appointed to prevent child marriage
The district administration will be responsible for preventing child marriage. In this, the collector and magistrate will have a special role
Special police unit and special unit should be formed to stop child marriage
The magistrate should get the right to take suo motu cognizance and take action
Special court should be formed for child marriage case
Awareness program should be organized
Along with this, the judges said, “Action should be taken against negligent government officials.” Apart from this, the court has asked to send a copy of the order to the secretary of the concerned ministries within 4 weeks and strictly follow the instructions.
However, the court did not give any decision on whether the child marriage law will affect the personal law or not.
