BJP leader Roopa Ganguly arrested
2 min readKolkata ( Team Newsbuddy): Former Rajya Sabha member and BJP leader Roopa Ganguly has been arrested. According to Kolkata Police, Ganguly has been arrested for obstructing the work of policemen.
The BJP leader was sitting on a dharna in front of a police station in South Kolkata since Wednesday night demanding the release of local female BJP leader Ruby Das. Das was also among the BJP supporters arrested on Wednesday evening.
In fact, road repair work was going on with the help of JCB in Bansdroni area of Kolkata on Wednesday morning. The student was a resident of ward number 113 of the municipality. It is alleged that the student was hit and crushed by a JCB while going to the coaching center. The student suffered serious head injuries. He was admitted to the hospital, but he could not be saved. Local people said that despite the accident, TMC’s local councilor Anita Majumdar did not reach the spot. People insisted on calling the councilor to the spot immediately and started protesting.
On receiving the information, police reached the spot and tried to convince the people. Later, when Assistant Commissioner of Kolkata Police Pradeep Ghoshal arrived, he also had to face protest. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police arrested 5 people on charges of obstructing government work. BJP alleged that Kolkata Police has selectively arrested party leader Ruby Mandal and her supporters.
When former Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly came to know about this, she reached Bansdroni Police Station and sat on a dharna outside the police station demanding justice. By late night, a crowd of BJP workers and supporters gathered outside the police station. Roopa entered the police station and BJP workers started protesting outside. BJP said that Ruby Mandal was taken into custody without any complaint. Whereas no accused has been arrested yet in the case of the student’s death. Roopa said, I will stay in the police station all night. I will sit here until the accused are arrested. After this, the police took action and arrested Ganguly.
